The government of Asturias, through the Ministry of Social Rights and Welfare, has approved a grant of 75,000 euros to provide emergency assistance to the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip, who have been suffering from Israeli military offensive since October 2023.
The grant, channeled through the Palestinian Red Crescent (PRC), is part of the organization's emergency appeal to cover basic food, hygiene, and shelter needs. The intervention will benefit around 4,245 families, representing approximately 21,200 individuals affected by the conflict in the occupied Palestinian territory, who will have access to essential items.
Within the framework of the project, totaling 300,000 euros, three types of items will be sent: food packages to 1,605 families, hygiene kits to 2,140 families, and essential supplies such as blankets, tents, or mats to 500 families.
The staff of the Palestinian Red Crescent will be responsible for distributing the aid in the camps and centers established for displaced persons throughout the Gaza Strip.
The Palestinian Red Crescent is one of the few organizations with access and operational capacity in the Gaza Strip. It is part of the health cluster and coordinates with the UN Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Doctors Without Borders, and the ministries of Health, Education, Social Development, Foreign Affairs, and Civil Defense.
Since the beginning of the conflict, this is the third emergency aid approved by the Government of Asturias for the Palestinian population in Gaza. In total, a global amount of 268,000 euros has been allocated, benefiting 94,788 people.
The first two aids were channeled through UNRWA: the first, amounting to 118,000 euros, to cover the most urgent food needs; the second for a psychosocial support project aimed at mitigating the impact of violence on children and young people.
